Human rights have always been an integral part of Zionism, but in recent years, those who seek to delegitimize the State of Israel have monopolized and utilized these ideas in order to spearhead their campaign against the State of Israel.

In light of this, Im Tirtzu, convened the first annual of “The Zionist Human Rights Convention,” welcoming Zionist human rights groups, activists and leaders who represented the diverse groups of the Israeli society.

The convention was pleased to host Annette Haskiyah, the mother of the first Muslim IDF enlistee, who harshly criticized Arab officials for discouraging the draft amongst Israeli Arabs.”

A number of the speakers received harsh threats over their intention to participate in the Zionist convention, including Father Gabriel Nadaf, the spiritual leader of the “Forum for the Enlistment of Christian to I.D.F”, whose son was attacked only two weeks ago in the city of Nazareth by activists who opposed Christian enlistment to the IDF. We were pleased to say that despite the threats, our speakers arrived and participated in the convention.

Other speakers included Rabbi Ronen Neubert – CEO and founder of the “Beit Hillel” organization, Ata Farhat – CEO of the Druze Zionist Movement, Ziad Saadi – CEO and Founder of the Bedouin “Yad-Lebanim”- for the memory of fallen Israeli soldiers, Segev Israel Afriat – CEO of the Roots of Giving Foundation for the Holocaust Survivors, Yoel Marshak – head of the Kibbutz Movement task force, and Ronen Shoval – Chairman of “Im Tirtzu.”

Shoval’s words concluded the convention: “Human rights are not a trademark owned by the New Israel Fund and the enemies of Zionism, they are not the private intellectual property of Zehava Galon and Naomi Hazan. Human rights don’t belong to the moonstruck, anti-Zionist left wing. Human rights belong to all people. We all have human rights – Jews and minorities, who live in the periphery and in the urban bubble. Let me reveal something revolutionary to you – even settlers have human rights”.

The conference was directed by Matan Peleg the CEO of Im Tirztu.
