Last night the Knesset passed a law that will grant two academic credits to IDF reservists who serve at least 14 days a year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The law, which passed by a wide majority of\u00a075 in favor and 10 opposed, was inspired by an Im Tirtzu report<\/a> published in October 2017 on the subject of reservists’ rights in academia. The report revealed how the majority of Israel’s academic institutions opt not to provide IDF reservists with academic credits, despite awarding credits to other “social activities.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The report, coupled with widespread advocacy efforts on the ground by our student activists, raised awareness for the need to implement measures to assist IDF student reservists who often suffer academically due to their service.<\/span><\/p>\n

In May 2018, the Committee of University Heads in Israel announced<\/a> that universities will be granting academic credits to reservists, and now the new law will extend this measure to include colleges as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are proud that our work was the catalyst behind this welcomed decision that will help IDF reservists cope with their academic workload.<\/span><\/p>\n
