{"id":33558,"date":"2021-01-19T13:56:24","date_gmt":"2021-01-19T13:56:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imti.org.il\/?p=33558"},"modified":"2021-01-25T12:16:22","modified_gmt":"2021-01-25T12:16:22","slug":"operationdugo2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eng.imti.org.il\/en\/operationdugo2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Commencing Operation Dugo!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Our activists were happy to partake in another year of Operation Dugo, named after the 90-year-old Holocaust survivor David \u201cDugo\u201d Leitner who eats falafel every year on January 18, the day in which the infamous 1944 death march from Auschwitz began.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">During the death march, Dugo, starving and exhausted, fantasized about eating &#8220;bilkelach,&#8221; mini challah rolls that Dugo&#8217;s mother said were in abundance in Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After the war, Dugo moved to Israel and for the first time saw a falafel ball, which reminded him of bilkelach.
