Recently, Germany passed a law calling the BDS movement “anti-Semitic”. 240 Israeli and Jewish academics published an open letter begging the government not to enact the law, being that it “is based on the false allegation that BDS as such equals anti-Semitism.”
In the same letter, they encourage Germany to continue funding “Israeli and Palestinian non-governmental organizations that peacefully challenge the Israeli occupation”. A similar letter that was sent before the law was passed, signed by 60 academics, was even more straightforward, requesting that Germany continue to fund NGOs that support the BDS.
Im Tirtzu, a Zionist NGO, leads the criticism of this letter. “While tremendous amounts of resources are invested in Israel and throughout the world to combat the international BDS movement,” says Matan Peleg, CEO of Im Tirtzu, “these radical professors are undermining these efforts by promoting the BDS from within Israel.”
“Israeli academia must immediately work to root out this severe phenomenon. The writing is on the wall,” he added.
